Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 14:45:47 -0500 (CDT) From: matt Subject: resolution let me be the first... shouts to relate and curtis dank for introducing most of us to the cyber club, 7 n. sixth st. in columbia, mo. i strolled in at 10 sharp (nothing else to do yo!) to find the djs (and gucci) tweaking out the sound setup. to those of you who experienced the sound first hand, don't blame curtis or relate. blame the owner. the "PA" he supplied was not quite what the djs expected; next time i'm sure curtis and relate will take care of bid-ness. the first delight of the evening was the drink pricing: $2 bottles of newcastle win me over every time. i had to spend 2 more bucks to get on the cyberclub's "ISDN"- connected terminals, which at first didn't seem too bad for an hour of web surfing. but ISDN, as they use it, must stand for "incredibly slow damn network" connection. curtis started off with some funky acid jazz then moved into some soulful house. sorry, folks, that's as descriptive as i get. i liked it more than you might think from my bland adjectives. as people started rolling into the place, i kept thinking of what raj would've said about the situation: "need more smoke!" also, i wish the light over the pool table could be reduced or eliminated. joe's young's lights can't mesmerize anyone when an entire side of the room is bright white. relate took over at about 11:30. i regret that i missed the climax of his set (i had to work early on sunday), but i'm sure it was smacked out. a minor sound problem interrupted the mix close to midnight, but relate recovered well. when i left, about 25 people were shaking their bootys, including our own listadmin... in summary, the venue was less than ideal in apperance and setup, but its owners were hip to the sounds of house and mid-tempo breaks. the crowd was mello and it appeared everbody was enjoying themselves. the sound was wack but the owner was to blame. the night was a little rough around the edges but holds lots of potential... anybody want to comment on the last hour or so? phase
