Queer Shoulder to the Wheel
Wherein our narrator gets at what is
really
bothering him.
Here it is, the 21st of December, and the
New York
Times is running a nice long article about how
homosexuality has entered a new Dark Age in America. It's to be expected,
really, because no sooner than the courts start granting the queers all sorts of
basic human rights than the religions are all up in arms. Queer power threatens
the very basis of external religious authority, which is the sexual regulation
of the individual. That sexual denial via religion creates the friction (quite
literally, Orgone energy) which is then channeled into the psychic basis of
faith. Let the fags have their way and religion loses its pathological control
over people. Q.E.D. It's what they're worried about, and quite frankly, they
should be.
Sorry if I'm going a
little fast for you people, but it really
is
time you started to keep up. Listen: I'm not going to simplify, not going to
apologize, not going to be anything but an angry fag who brushed the dirt from
his shoes as he left the country. Listen to me, America: You are deeply, deeply
sick. You think you're perfectly well, but there's a cancer in you. It's eaten
away most of your insides, and I don't really know if I hold out any hope of
recovery.
I'm torn. Part of me just
wants to wash my hands of the whole thing, and part of me wants to fight like a
motherfucker for what I know is right. But right now 61% of Americans oppose
queer marriage (according to
NYT)
and that may mean that W. can coast to electoral victory next year not on his
fucked up foreign policy, not on his having made us feel less secure, but
because middle fucking america is afraid of queer marriage. Ladies and
Gentlemen, the Republicans have found their
wedge.
The happiness of Americans has
become contingent upon denying someone else the pursuit of theirs. It's
disgusting.
And you wonder why I want
to leave the country. At least here in Australia I know why I'm being treated
as a second-class citizen: I'm not a citizen at all. And whlie homosexuality is
still a bit of a curiosity in the bush, it has always always always been a part
of Australian culture, what with the penal colony and all. Fully fifteen
percent of Australians identify themselves as queer, and god bless all of them.
Can they get married? No. Do they care? Probably. But when the day comes, I
can't imagine that even John Howard would stand in the way of it. Australia can
look to Canada - the one thing America must never do - to see that it's been
completely innocuous.
Oh, but I'm
getting away from the main point, which must remain America, the stupid.
America, the ignorant. America the hateful.
America, the bad years. I know some
historian will write that book, someday, setting the dates as 2001 - 2xxx.
Who knows; these dark ages could last for two centuries, particularly if America
crawls into some theocratic abyss - although such a scenario seems more likely
to terminate in apocalyptic conflagration. God and Death, Sex and God. They
travel together, they play off each other, and until America gets its
pre-Freudian head around that simple fact, there really isn't a whole lot more
to say.
America, this is an
intervention. You need some psychoanalysis. Your personality has become very
brittle. You snap at friends, and sneer at people you don't know. You're
prone to paranoia. You've lost any sense of hope. You lack joy. Upon waking
up in the morning, the first thing you feel is
fear.
And you fear me, America. But
why? What has this big, crazy queer witch ever done to you? You created me.
My beliefs are the product your crucible. My sense of truth, and freedom, and
creative anarchy, why, that's America to the core. But now, as the great
experiment begins to produces its inevitable results, you back away. Why,
America? Why?
I'll tell you why:
because being alone is painful and hard and also the only way you'll actually
ever be. So we run to Mommy-Daddy who will help us forget that we live alone
and die alone. But Mommy-Daddy makes a demand: we must forget that
we do not love
alone. Love is the revolutionary act. Love
is freedom of Will. And therefore, love must be stopped.
Non
Serviam, America.
