The Long Nightmare...continued?
Wherein the narrator experiences still more
computer-related sturm und drang...
At almost one week to the minute, the iBook died
again. Startup sound...then nothing. This was getting tiring. But I dutifully
brought it in to the Apple Centre for repairs. "Again," they asked? "Man, you
gotta call Apple Customer Relations". Which I did, on Monday morning,
expressing my desire to have my faulty unit replaced. They
seemed...unimpressed? I guess one has to be bleeding to death to get any real
help out of Apple Customer Relations - another black strike against them. But
whatever. I got a call from the Apple Centre later in the day - my additional
RAM had gone. Was it under waranty? (Yes, but not theirs.) How much to
replace? AUD $220 - the price went up recently because this model of iBook is
now an orphan. But whatever, I told them to fix it. And so, on Monday
afternoon, I picked up the iBook again. So far, so
good.
Of course, the RAM wouldn't have
blown out - in all likelyhood - if the iBook case hadn't been repeatedly opened
for repairs. RAM doesn't like disturbances. It wants to sit, snug in its slot,
and play with bits. But whatever. At least it's all working. For
now.
