Spirituality has fuck all to do with the rave scene. It's just people getting off their heads, and thinking they're having a spiritual experience, when they've probably never had one in their lives, which is why there's all this bullshit about being as one. I started going to raves in 1989, the so called summer of love, and it did seem like it at the time, but nearly 7 years on, it's just a memory. I live in Manchester, England, and we have probably the biggest club scene in the world, but there's no fuckin spirituality, just people having a good time, end of story. As for cultures using drugs for religion or tradition or spirituality, fare enough, maybe, but you cant compare it to people paying to go in a club or going to a rave in a field and listening to stomping house or techno. I lived in Seattle for 2 years, which by the way has the worst rave scene in the world, and i couldnt belive all the shit on the flyers, cosmic crap, cheap psychedelic art and some of the cheesiest slogans I'd ever read "come on a journey" what a load of complete and utter shite, wake up to your selves, it's the drugs that make you feel that way, break on through to the other side, there is no other side, you live, you die, simple.

You seem to be implying that clubs are the same as the rave scene --> bigger, better, more commercial etc. etc. (true for clubs, not raves) If you can make it to a smaller scene where the party is about plur not money, then you might notice that rave is sort of our culture's way of dealing with religion. No longer do we need some higher force to feel a belonging to, we have each other to share our beliefs (plur and the vibe), and to connect to on a spiritual level :). Whether the raver kidz take e or go straight, they can still experience the vibe together. I don't see much difference in doing e and dancing to the vibe all night and doing mushrooms and dancing around a fire to the beat of drums. Yet one you would call a spiritual experience and one you wouldn't ???

Try a smaller scene and see if you can find the spirituality, if not then enjoy your club scene (which just might be the biggest in the world;).

peace,
chriss

nah, man. you're incorrect. I know I get a sense of spirituality with it because I don't *need* drugs (or a crowd for that matter) to do it for me. just dancing in my apartment gets me out there. I'm not here to debate the existence of God, but I can't deny what I feel. and neither can you. I do believe, however, that what you say is true for a lot of people.
