From karina@hyperreal.org Sat Oct 2 07:59:19 2004 Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2004 23:58:42 -0700 (PDT) From: Karina To: sfraves@hyperreal.org, sfrcal Subject: [sfraves-calendar] SFRCAL Pre Love Parade Edition 10.01.04 My updates to SFR are back without further delay, due to the fact that I went to the hospital mid September for 4 day/3 night stay. This has been one of many trips to the hospital, requiring urgent and critical attention and care. I have been to the Emergency Unit (Emergency Care Unit) a total of 4 times in this past month, in Urgent Care Unit three times, and other hospital Units 2 times (EAU/Trauma/4th). In a nutshell, my condition was so serious that it was life-threatening, & near fatal. If I had not returned to the hospital, I could have possibly lost my abilityy to walk and dance, and potentially lost my life. I am grateful to be alive. My brush with death has come too close to call in this past month; I look forward to a long and healthy life. I wish the same for all my family, friends, acquaintances and the beautiful flora and fauna of this Universe. Namaste and may your heart, mind, soul and world be filled with joy, peace, and good health. karina -- ************************************************************** ******************>karina@hyperreal.org<********************** If there is a sin against life, it consists perhaps not so much in despairing of life as in hoping for another life & in eluding the implacable grandeur of this life. -- Albert Camus -- ******************************************* ************************************************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------- The SFRaves Calendar Upcoming Parties and Events in the San Francisco Bay Area http://www.hyperreal.org/raves/sf/calendar2/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- This is an automated message from the sfraves website http://www.hyperreal.org/raves/sf/calendar2/ Friday, October 1, 2004 ** Tokyo Electric 2 Year Anniversary ** Tokyo Electric presents a Love Parade Weekend / 2 year anniversary celebration featuring John Selway. Loveworks Resident DJ Bio: MATT VALENZ In a world overtaken by automation and technology, soul can be a hard thing to come by. For someone lucky enough to be raised on the sounds of earth wind & fire, kool and the gang, diana ross, and tower of power, being soulful comes as second nature. At 17 he was turned onto vinyl and was soon playing miami bass, freestyle, and primitive house at small underground parties in the central california area, then moved on to start a career in the music business when he relocated to San Francisco at age 21. He continued his drive to learn every aspect of the industry, and returned a few years ago from a two year stay in England where he was the booking manager for dy-na-mix agency, the best agency for underground music in Europe. Now, back in that city, he is resident at ~Q Loveworks Dancing ~Q, a mobile house music phenomenon focusing on vibe, music, and art. past guests such as Doc Martin, Joi Cardwell, J. Sinister, DJ Diz, and international guests like the UK's Eddie Richards, A Man Called Adam, and Terry Francis have also helped to establish the party as a premier place for true house music, funk, soul, and classics in the bay area. He continues to play at the some of San Francisco's best parties and is currently assembling a personal studio. Loveworks Resident DJ Bio: DAVID HARNESS In 1990, David began DJ'ing in his hometown of Monterey, California, at the After Dark. As his popularity grew past the boundaries of Monterey, he was invited to establish a residency at Tilt, and Sound Factory, in San Francisco. In 1992, as David's popularity continued to grow he, along with DJ, Ruben Mancias and promoter Joseph Solis opened a hip and popular club, Lift, at Club Dv8. David joined Bay Area legendary DJ, Pete Avila and host Foxxee Brown on 'Your Mama's House', on the Bay Area's popular radio station KMEL FM. Being the only "true" house mix show on any Northern California radio station, DJ's David Harness, Pete Avila and host Foxxee Brown have played a key role in furthering House Music in the Bay Area. Also during that year, David established a residency at San Francisco's legendary Club Universe. David Harness has quickly become one of the most well known and popular DJ's in the San Francisco Bay Area club scene. David's popularity continued to soar, taking him around the world; and the opportunity to play with New York's Legendary DJ's, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, Little Louie Vega, Tedd Patterson, Dave Morales, London's Ricky Morrison, Danny Teneglia, Marques Wyatt- to name a few. He has appeared in articles and interviews in Billboard Magazine, Paper Magazine, Surface, XLR8R, Urb, Streetsounds, Sweater, HX, Next and the Bay Guardian. Bio: LOVEWORKS Add a large helping of deep underground house music with a side of funk, a heap of disco, and a hint of techno, and you have the most nutritious dancefloor experience available in San Francisco. Initially conceived by Dianna Jacobs and Nori Castillo of Toontown / Carefree fame in the summer of '96, Loveworks was envisioned as a refuge from the monotony of local clubs and superficial music, and has become one of the bay area's most well known nights out, while somehow remaining one it's best kept secrets. It exists to unite people of any race, social status or sexuality together in a comfortable and friendly club environment with music as the focal point, and in addition to it's monthly parties at the Minna Gallery, Loveworks also teams up with other like minded parties around the city and has been featured at clubs and parties such as Liquid, the Top, Electric, and the Endup. Besides late night dancing, Loveworks has also been involved in events for Wired Magazine, Apple Computer, Sony Digital, Construct Internet Design, and a host of others. Loveworks also had the honor of winning the SF Bay Guardian~Rs ~Q BEST HOUSE CLUB ~Q in 1999. Bio: 111 MINNA GALLERY 111 Minna Gallery is a dynamic ~Qcontemporary art salon~R that provides an arena for multi-dimensional artistic expression in a community atmosphere. The goal of the ~Qgallery-as salon~R concept is to nurture and support a communal gathering of artists and a collaboration between diverse art forms. This goal is achieved through six-week rotations of visual art exhibitions curated by the staff combined with a variety of music and film events. ~QMinna~R is not only the name of the street on which the gallery is found but also translates from Japanese as "everybody," an all-inclusive term that symbolizes the embracing environment of the space. The gallery, which also offers two bars, is crafted in an eclectic, contemporary design with ample furniture inviting guests to leisurely relax and enjoy conversation among friends. The combination of art, music, film, dance and conversation found at 111 Minna Gallery creates a unique gathering place for a multi-sensory experience.
