Subject: [ne-raves] 11/11 ? ATTN JUNKIES & JOGGERS! ROBOSONIC (FROM BERLIN) + DJ
	OVERKILL @ MIXED SIGNALS

\\ AGENDA \\\\\\\\\\

MIXED SIGNALS has been a monument of techno music in DC. The main goal =20
has always been to bring long overdue acts to the Capital City, with =20
interactive art and visuals to enhance your experience. This month, we =20
continue the tradition with more exclusive appearances and a focus on =20
highly energetic, uber-danceable, hands-in-the-air party music with a =20
twist of techno. Put on your workout shoes because you can expect =20
nothing but uncontrollable booty-shakin' and non-stop body rockin' =20
tonight!

\\ ARTISTS \\\\\\\\\\

+ ROBOSONIC (DISKOMAFIA, BERLIN, GERMANY)

Coming to Washington, DC for an exclusive appearance directly from =20
Berlin, Germany is a DJ/Producer duo who leave behind trampled dance =20
floors: be it glamour and glitz at some stylish-trendy fashion show, a =20
party in a filthy illegal underground club in Berlin, a festival at =20
sunset or an obscure private party in Hungary. Schall & Robotti a.k.a =20
ROBOSONIC stand for rough electronic party mayhem with rock star =20
attitude. By fusing their own productions and current =20
release-highlights with quotes, elements of classics and items of =20
mashup-culture, they draw revelers into their cross-referenced and =20
infectiously energetic dance zeitgeist. Playing 'alive' [DJ+live mix =20
on computer] and also as a turntable DJ-team, these nightowls are =20
responsible for excessive parties: Muscular dance entertainment for =20
junkies and joggers! Download a sample of their music from =20
http://www.mixedsignalsdc.com/music/novemberpromocd(robosoniconly).zip

+ OVERKILL (SOUND DESIGN, ARKATEKS, DC/VA)

Leading things off, New York native, DJ OVERKILL, will be reaching =20
deep into his vinyl archive to present a mix of party jams from the =20
early 1990s with classics that cross the genres of acid house, techno, =20
and rave. DJing for over 15 years, Overkill has been influenced by =20
heavyweights like Carl Cox, Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Todd Terry and DJ =20
Sneak. Having played to crowds of more than 1,000 people, his =20
technique and selections are sure to bring back memories and put a =20
smile on your face. Can you dig it!? So, come out and wiggle it...

+ MAJA PETRIC (MAJAPETRIC.COM)

Resident interactive telecommunications wizard, Maja Petric, will be =20
displaying her latest interactive piece entitled "Black & White in =20
Color."

Subject: [ne-raves] Fwd: First Ever Big Takeover Low-key/Lo-watt Afternoon Party!

This looks like fun, a party that's more on the 'chill room' side, and
you can't beat the price. :-)

If I can make it then maybe I'll get to meet some of you there.

---------- Forwarded message ----------

hello friends

as i just posted this on our web site (http://www.bigtakeover.com/),
i wanted to make sure i invited you to this low-key party/get-
together we are throwing in conjunction with sound fix records/cds
store a week from saturday in the afternoon. it's free and it should
be fun. lots of big takeover people/staffers will be there (i'll
introduce them) and we've got members of mutton birds, boo radleys,
and springhouse playing acoustic/low-fi sets in a relaxed setting in
the pleasant cafe that adjoins sound fix in williamsburg, the fix
 cafe.

anyway, hope you can make it, and in case you've asked or want to
know, i have just put the wraps on the new issue 59 and that should
be out sometime after this event. so this would be your last chance
to send us a chance of address if you've moved, and if you want to
subscribe, you can do that at bigtakeover.com or send us a check for
 $20 to our address below.

 cheers! hope to see you!

Announcing First Ever Big Takeover Low-key/Lo-watt Afternoon Party!
In Conjunction With Sound Fix Records Store in Brooklyn; Members of
Mutton Birds, Boo Radleys, and Springhouse to Play For Free!
 Admission Open to All!

Hey, we haven't had a Big Takeover party in a few years, and we have
come up with a new wrinkle for one. Rather than doing it on a
weekend night with loud live bands as we have in the past, it's time
we did a weekend afternoon with some international all-star acts
playing unplugged/lo-fi in a comfy cafe adjoining one of New York's
truly great record stores! For free!

The store is Sound Fix right on the main drag in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn, 110 Bedford Ave, (718) 388-8090, and its adjoining cafe is
the Fix Cafe. The date is Saturday, November 11 at 1 PM, and we have
three great acts from three countries that have agreed to perform
some relaxed sets for us in keeping with the theme and festivities.
I will be MCing the low-key, friendly, social affair, the coffee and
other afternoon drinks available for purchase are quite good at the
Fix Cafe, and the couches and chairs comfortable. And I never get
out of the store without spending a small, happy fortune, as they
carry a terrific selection of new and used vinyl and CDs. (Note, the
fine owner and our old friend, JAMES BRADLEY, and some others who
work there like STEVE HOLTJE and JOSH GABRIEL, are bylines you will
perhaps recognize from our pages! And you can order from them
online, too, at soundfixrecords.com) There will be plenty of chance
to chat, too, with myself and other Big T staffers and the artists,
as it is that sort of place.

As to the performers lending their time and voices for the event:

Playing last will be the truly great DON MCGLASHAN,
singer/songwriter from one of the truly great 1990s bands THE MUTTON
BIRDS-a longtime Big Takeover favorite all the way from New Zealand
(and later London). That band is no more, but Don has just released
his first solo LP, Warm Hand, which has been chosen #2 in my Top 40
the forthcoming fall issue #59 of Big Takeover. And this will be his
only North American date!!!! Don has rarely played in this country,
despite living in New York for a year pre-Mutton Birds, and we're
thus quite honored to present him 9000 miles from his home base! And
judging from both the lighter textures of his new LP and from Mutton
Birds' 1997 acoustic live LP Angle of Entry, he excels in the
unplugged format. To hear four songs on that fantastic new LP, plus
a pleasant video starring a dolphin, I direct you to
myspace.com/donmcglashan (If anyone knows were to listen to any of
his Mutton Birds stuff online, let me know.)

For more info on Don, he has a website at donmcglashan.com. Note
that a sneak preview of my review of Warm Hand for the new issue can
be found, in its entirety on that site, with our blessings. We want
everyone to know about this superb artist. And in this case,
everyone to see him, too! And the good news is that Don will be
bringing over copies of both his new LP, and Mutton Birds' essential
best-of collection Flock to sell at the party.

Playing in the middle slot is BRAVE CAPTAIN, AKA MARTIN CARR,
guitarist from Liverpool's BOO RADLEYS, playing a "lo-watt" stripped
down set with his group, including our own BT scribe CORIN ASHLEY
late of Boston's THE PILLS. Boo Radleys were another of Big
Takeover's favorite bands of the 1990s and Martin wrote all their
songs for his pal SICE to sing. Since their breakup, Martin has
continued to record as Brave Captain but also has rarely been
sighted on these shores. His 2001 Brave Captain best-of Nothing L
ives Long, He Sang, Only the Earth and the Mountains was released
here on Thirsty Ear a while back, and a good description of what he
does these days can be found in a review of the CD online by The
 Boston Phoenix at
 http://www.bostonphoenix.com/boston/music/otr/documents/01538995.htm

I couldn't find any Brave Captain music to listen to online, but
there are about four MTV videos on Boo Radleys on YouTube if you
want to hear/see some music. The one I recommend is for the
 incredible song "Lazarus" at http://youtube.com/watch?v=MVwLEHZ57fs

And starting off the festivities will be our own MITCH FRIEDLAND,
singer/guitarist/songwriter of my old/current band SPRINGHOUSE. We
have just completed the long-delayed recording of our third LP (and
first in over a decade), mastered and all, and likely titled From
Now to OK. So, playing solo acoustic, Mitch will be previewing some
of its lighter fare along with some old favorites from our two LPs
for Caroline Records in the early '90s. Both of these two LPs are
out of print, but thanks to our good friend HERB JUE we've been able
to amass a small pile of used copies from the stores and online
stores of America, which we will make available at the show.

Springhouse has no MySpace page as of yet, sorry! But I noticed that
someone has kindly posted one of our old MTV videos on You Tube if
you want to hear one of our songs, "Layers"-and see three men
shivering playing in the bitter cold outside in a geodesic dome in
Flushing Meadows Park in January 1991 (you can see puffs of smoke
come out of Mitch's mouth, and my sweater looks pretty threadbare
playing drums in such a climate). Go to http://youtube.com/watch?
v=56SPr4N7D2o And there's more info including old reviews and
interviews and lyrics, etc. at 7

AND THIS JUST IN: Although it's not connected to our event,
England's SCRITTI POLITTI will also be playing directly after we are
finished! So more bang for your no-bucks!

Anyway, please come and hang out and shoot the bull at one of the
more pleasant cafes in all of New York City, and look at the CDs and
vinyl available at one of the best record stores around. And spend
the afternoon with some really special singer/songwriters, two from
very far away, and the staffers of Big Takeover!

And look for issue 59 in stores and your mailbox reasonably soon
(it's at the printers). Again, let us know if your address has
changed or if you have any questions about your subscription!

Hope to see you on the 11th of November at 1PM at Sound Fix!

Yours, Jack Rabid, Big Takeover editor and publisher

Subject: [ne-raves] tomorrow night - chill fight caberet laws NYC

Heya folks -
I am forwarding an anouncement of a meeting tomorrow night for the reincarnated
NYC group fighting the Caberet laws - I posted here about the new threats to
privacy in club-going and nightlife in NYC - as far as I know those propsals
are being re-worked in city council - you can get the bare bones information
and links to oppose it with a quick email - seriously it only takes a few
minutes of your time at www.publicpsaceforall.com

So the event tomorrow is worth checking out for the changes needed over the long
term... enjoy
 Ralph/kairos
--------------------------------------------------
We are a Metropolis in Motion.... and we say that Dancing is NOT a Crime!

We would like to update you on recent events concerning cabaret law reform
as well as invite you to our Metropolis in Motion / Dance Parade Launch
Party Event this Friday!

7-10pm at China 1, 50 Ave B & East 4th. Cash bar

Our website for Metropolis in Motion is now live: www.metropolisinmotion and
contains many useful facts about the history of the prohibitionist cabaret
law, press/media coverage as well as online ideas how YOU can make a
difference! Our efforts in the coming months are to reach out to the many
ethnic communities, calling them to action around the racist origins that
were written to prohibit inter-racial dancing.

One of the many avenues to change can be through your City Council
Representative, many of who do not know the issues. At our gathering
tomorrow, you can learn about how to effectively reach out to your local
government representative and bring more dancing to the city!

Also, we will be introducing DANCE PARADE 2007, an awesome annual project to
bring together thousands of dancers of *all* stripes, including club, Latin,
African, swing, tap, performance, shaman, tribal and tango! Set for May
19th next year, we will be presenting our business plan and inviting you to
join-You can sign up now at danceparade.org and share your website to other
dancers!

In the name of Dance!
Your friends at Metropolis In Motion

Subject: [ne-raves] NYE Events

Hey all

My friend and I have been trying to figure out where to go for NYE.
Originally we had planned to go to the Tiesto show, but neither of us
wants to drive the 7 hours and then shell out 100 bucks for the ticket.
So we're both out of ideas, and famous dj's. Anyone have any suggestions
and or places that are going to have good strong raves that night?

Krix

Subject: [ne-raves] info on party in philly this weekend

thought I saw something a few weeks ago about a party thanksgiving
weekend in Philly.

I was planning my weekend out, Thanksgiving @ Pacha, Tsunami psytrance
party, then being in Philly on Friday for a psytrance party, thought
I'd stick around for the Saturday party. Can anyone provide details or
a link to a website? There's another psytrance party in Brooklyn but I
think I'll be psytranced out. Anyway I gotta get some techno and/or
some acid house in my system

Massive Audio is proud to announce a night with legendary House DJ
ONIONZ
ElectrikSoul | Big Chief
It's 1982 the school park is rocking and the early sounds of a young
DJ are pumping through the streets. Meet "Onionz", coming straight
out of Queens, NY with a couple of turntables and setting the party
off right. Since the beginning, spinning records for Onionz has
always been about transformation, making the room move to where you
want it to be, taking the rhythm and making it change without a seam.
A complete metamorphosis of not just art, but life... a life lived,
relived, and filled with music.

His earliest musical influence came from his dad, Victor Venegas.
Victor played upright bass with the kings of Latin Jazz: Mongo
Santamaria, Tito Puente and Celia Cruz. Onionz learned to play
percussion along side his father before he was ten, appearing on
stage with his father at different times with Candido, Steve Berrios
and Paquito DeRivera.

His early gigs were the legendary nights and early mornings at
almost every NYC spot imaginable. When, his following became
nationwide there was nothing left to do, but take his love for music
global. As a fan favorite and house hero, Onionz still pushed for
more, he's developed and evolved. From House to Techno, Breaks to
Disco... it's always been about diversity for Onionz. His time on the
road cemented relationships with DJs and producers from city to city
and in over 30 different countries. The results of his labor of love
and respected relationships have helped to establish over 100 studio
projects and counting.

With over 30 years of music under his belt, a heavy travel
itinerary, and multiple production and remix projects taking place,
he has definitely kept the dance floor moving. As Onionz would say;
to keep it fresh, you just have to continuously create and
consistently rock it!

Also appearing this night are:
Ryan Kick, BillyBob The Brothers Wheeler, & Kevin Psych

10pm - 4am | 2 Rooms of Music | Great Specials and more!
The Red Square 388 Broadway Albany, NY 12207

Subject: [ne-raves] Re:

Dude, I kinda gave up on the rave scene.

It was so overrun by liberals that it was kinda disgusting.

I LOVE electronic music, ESPECIALLY when it makes its way into actual new
rock music, but I mean, c'mon. I had a date with a girl the other night
who said "DJ Irene is one of my favorite techno djs". I mean, what do we
do about that?
