Will spare details. Was hoping that the list could/would take care of itself and for the most part it looks like it has. When I first got on this wacky ride I was a much more heavy-handed mod than I would have liked (or knew how to be). Most have forgotten the democratizing effects of a loosely moderated yet lively list from pre-Web days. Public ridicule and castigation by peers was enough to kill a thread that started to go awry. There are so many places to go and see on this wonderous Web 2.0 and most don't care or have the time to engage deeply enough to keep a listserve alive. Which is why perhaps there are fewer listserves and more message boards around. Hope the following changes will result in something more useful to the community. Please feel free to speak your mind. >From here on [nyc-raves] and [ne-raves] refer to the NYC Raves and Northeast Raves listserves respectively. The current, public [nyc-raves] will be folded into [ne-raves]. [nyc-raves] will be switched to a private, subscription moderated list for DJs, artists, promoters, crews, etc. who need a place to chat freely or feel more comfortable about doing so. It's long been speculated that feds snoop on these public lists which may deter some from posting. (I don't really believe so. Seems a waste of time to me. It's easier to just follow the loud music and throngs of out-of-place youths from the comforts of a patrol car.) New subscribers will need to be known members of the community or have a referral from someone already on the list. Current [nyc-raves] subscribers will be automatically subscribed to [ne-raves]. You can still unsubscribe at any time by sending a blank email to either nyc-raves-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org or ne-raves-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org. Not sure when the switch will happen. Will try to give as much notice as possible. Admins at Hyperreal are migrating mail servers and changing things around. I also need to figure out a little shell scripting so there isn't a masterfully muck up. There are plans to migrate event and user data from the old NYC Raves site to NER. Still writing the new scripts so please be patient.
