World Of Drum and Bass - March 13th!! by True Productions w/ a little help
from Columns of Knowledge

THE WORLD OF DRUM N' BASS

SATURDAY - MARCH 13TH

THE ASYLUM NIGHTCLUB
SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS

// Featuring:

======( Area 1 - all main stage Drum n' Bass)======

// hosted by:

MC SKIBADEE
(www.skibadee.com) UK
A young MC Skibadee took the scene by storm when he started on Kool
FM a few
years back. Since then he has turned the emcee'ing world upside down
with his inimitable blend of double time lyrics leaving crowds
screaming for more everywhere he goes. Not content with picking up
countless Best MC awards he has turned his hand to production and
his work with Can-I-Bus, Lil Kim and Romeo is just the start of what
promises to be a very long and flourishing career.

featuring dj's:

GROOVERIDER (3:00-4:30)
(grooverider.com) UK
Groove has been dubbed the godfather for many years now, after some
17 years in the game he's still going strong, and still pushing
boundaries. There is not an organization worth it's weight in gold
that this man hasn't played for over the years. Quite simply, we
like to call this man foundation.

DJ SS (1:15-2:30)
(dj-ss.com) UK
Head honcho of Formation Records and the World of Drum & Bass brand,
this man is responsible for a hell of a lot when it comes to drum &
bass. Whether it be
producing some of the all-time classic tracks that have graced
dancefloors the world over, discovering some of the scene's hottest
stars, or bringing drum & bass to some very far flung corners of the
globe this man has done it all. Quite simply - a living legend!

SHY FX (12:00-1:15)
(shyfxandtpower.com - ebony recordings) UK
>From an early age Shy FX has been causing havoc on many a dance
floor. From early numbers such as Original Nuttah, This Style, and
Funkin Em Up to the more current like Number One Murderation, and Ra
to name but a few, the aim has always been the same - dancefloor
devasta-tion. In 2002 he and studio partner T Power pushed drum &
bass into the mainstream to much acclaim with Shake Ya Body, closely
followed by Don't Wanna Know and Feeling You. with busy DJing and
production schedules, this man means business in 2004.

TWISTED INDIVIDUAL (4:30-6:00)
(formationrecords.com) UK
Twisted's somewhat off-the wall persona and even more off-the-wall
track titles have certainly paid dividends over the last year or so.
With many productions for the
Formation Records camp, most notably his controversial 'Bandwagon
Blues'. In
December 2003 he picked up awards for best track and best producer
at the Accelerated Culture Awards. 2004 certainly looks bright.

KILLA KELA & MC TRIP (2:30-3:00)
(www.spitkingdom.com) UK *live performance !!*
Spit Kingdom aka Killa Kela, Skeletrik, and MC Trip is an awesome 3
man tag-team stage show taking audiences through combinations of
beatboxing, Mcing and Djing, from hip-hop, ragga and breaks right
through to drum n bass in what was described as most exciting stage
show of the year by Time Out, London. In 2003 they clocked up over
100 world-wide shows, including 2 sold-out shows in Hong Kong,
headlining pan-European tours, support tours with the likes of Busta
Rhymes, The Neptunes & N*E*R*D, Redman, The Streets and PublicEnemy
to name a few. 2003 was the break through... 2004 is domination.

BURNER BRO.S (10:30-12:00)
(direct drive - rawkuts) NYC

SURVIVAL CREW (9:00-10:30)
*Human & MC Bass Nacho*
(www.survivalnyc.com) NYC

======( Area 2 - hip hop room )======

MR LIF (1:00-2:30)
(www.mrlif.com - definitive jux) MA
Four-time Boston Music Awards winner, Mr. Lif has toured the world,
performing alongside the very best in Hip-Hop and beyond, including;
Eminem, The Roots, Company Flow, Busta Rymes, Burning Spear, Souls
of Mischief, Cannibal Ox, KRS-One, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Roni
Size Reprazent, Tortoise, Zap Mama and many, many more. As a

lyricist, Mr. Lif offers Hip-Hop through the eyes of an intelligent
man who is passionate about his art form. He commands the attention
of his peers and seeks to inspire them to search for Knowledge of
Self. Within one song, he may launch an attack on the American
educational system while delivering an onslaught of battle rhymes
that will make Hip Hop fans reminiscent of park jams back in '88.
Mr. Lif uses a powerful command of vocabulary to create vast and
precise images. Listeners receive an intense lyrical package that
contains highly visual content delivered via polyrhythmic flows, a
voice full of character and authority, as well as a compelling
sincerity that will blow your mind.

AKROBATIK (1:00-2:30)
(www.akrobatik.com) Boston
Boston's Akrobatik represents the best in hip-hop music -- creative
and thought-provoking content, thundering beats, energetic live
performance, and a deep respect for the tradition of artists that
paved the way. Akrobatik is a hip-hop legend in the making, a true
school rapper and performer who commands a stage with his powerful
voice.

DJ FAKTS ONE
(The Perceptionists) Boston

DJ SKELITRIC (10:00-10:30)
(spitkingdom.com) UK

Yes you may - the club is Discotheque (not an unknown club), but either way the address should be a dead giveaway ;)

I don't promote...I just forward info that I think people would enjoy.

What you can do is forward anything you see to that list that you think they would like.

I am seriously not hip and out of the loop and haven't hit any of the
clubs in NYC in a long while. All the ones I have visited are now under
new management or non-existant.

On the upside I have had a lot of luck and fun going to one-offs in
warehouses and weird places. Not feeling the clubs now especially in
NYC.

Yea - same here....discotheque was some other club (forget which now)...I only go to one offs, mainly at clubs instead of the warehouse scene. Too much shady shit is goin down at the warehouse spots - from arrests to confiscations...just too much drama to listen to some tunes.

There's a cute lil bar out in LI that has amazing locals there almost every weekend...called the Aqua Lounge in Glen Cove. Sometimes to get my fix, I check it out - other times, I hit off my fav dj's in the city. It's been a LONG time since I've travelled to a party tho - considering I used to travel out of state almost every weekend, way back when. Whistle and Bang is definately a possibility - I've been to each one before these reunions, so its good to get that old feeling again (if they can conjure it up).

It's sad, isn't it - all thjose clubs that we went to growing up have now been shut down, changed names and entire floorplans. I miss the tunnel and limelight (as it was) and twilo and MIRAGE / CARBON, the roseland, and soon to be Arc/Vinyl... Just think there are people who have never partied at the tunnel....so sad.

I have seriously been trying because I haven't seen most of you in ages.
But stuff always comes up. Will sincerely try my best for the April
showing. How was Chao at the last Fukkital? BTW, saw his CD in the used
bin at Kim's on St. Mark's. Pretty cool.

I havent' been a "DJ" for a while. Mostly since I killed the moniker "skinner"
2 years ago. Since then I really have't been a DJ since 2000 and most'y only
have concentrated on my personal production, and black monolith records. I
don't even "play" at home and really only need one table for refernceing test
pressings, or sampling new records I get for my mp3 collection. It's time to
make space in the house, use the money for a new hardwood floor and pass the
tourch to someone younger. I always have been better at producing anyway, I
only became a DJ becuse at the time people played crap and I had a collection
better then most I always was a producer first.

Subject: [ne-raves] New to the list

Hello,

I'm new to the list and just want to say hi to everyone on the NE-Raves
list. Some of you may or may not know me from other raves lists or parties
that I've been fortunate to spin at (mostly Central Florida and California
parties), so here's a little bit of info about myself: I'm 31 and have been
involved in the rave scene for about 14 years. I currently live in the San
Francisco Bay Area and my raving and djing experience has been amazing and
fortunate to participate on both the east and west coasts of the US. So,
yeah as I've just mentioned, I am a DJ, and since there tends to be a lot of
djs out there in the world, I'll just say my style at the moment lends more
towards the Progressive House genre, although I don't care to be tagged to
any one particular style or genre, I'll play whatever fits my mood. I hope
to get involved with the discussions here, and learn a lot more about some
of the scenes outside of my area. See what's happening and what exactly
gets all NE-Raves people excited, which will broaden my scope since I think
everyone here is outside of the scene I'm currently active in.

I love to share my music and what gets me excited. I hope that you can
check out some of my Mixes, give me some feedback, say hi, or maybe
introduce yourself to me.

Feel free to poke around on my website:

Hugs!

What's up y'all,

Tonight's time again for another phatty phat Dirtbox Radio. Jerel and I
will be joined by guest DJs Abe Froman and Inflictz, both of whom are ace
DJs. Inflictz gets down on the evil tech tip, and is a nasty turntablist
as well. Abe Froman comes hard with the serious dancefloor chunage and
lots of energy. It'll be a good show no doubt, so don't sleep.

Hey there -

A while back I was in touch with people at hyperreal about trying to get
interview candidates for a Peter Jennings Documentary on Ecstasy. I just
wanted to let you all know that I wanted to contact you as the
documentary is finally airing this Thursday, April 1st at 10PM EST on
ABC (channel 7). It's entitled "Peter Jennings Reporting: Ecstasy
Rising" and I think you'll find that what we report about Ecstasy is
unprecedented for a major news network. I am attaching some information
about the program below. I encourage you to pass the information along
to anyone you think might be interested in watching (especially the
hyperreal community). I think you will enjoy the show and would love to
know what you think of it. The network was actually quite hesitant to
air this show because they thought it was too controversial. So we'd
love your support to show them that they have done the right thing.

All the best,

Susan

"Peter Jennings Reporting: Ecstasy Rising"
Airs Thursday, April 1st, on ABC at 10PM EST

ABC NEWS TO AIR ONE-HOUR SPECIAL REPORT ON
TODAY'S DRUG OF CHOICE -- ECSTASY

The rise of Ecstasy is a major event in drug history. If current trends
continue, 1.8 million Americans will try Ecstasy for the first time in
2004; only marijuana will attract more new users. Overwhelming, positive
word of mouth has made Ecstasy a nightmare for drug controllers. On a
special edition of "Primetime Thursday," Peter Jennings tells the epic
story of Ecstasy that has never been heard. "Peter Jennings Reporting:
Ecstasy Rising" airs THURSDAY, APRIL 1st at 10pm EST on the ABC
Television Network.

In the 1990s, Ecstasy seemed to come out of nowhere to join marijuana,
cocaine and heroin as one of the four most widely used illegal drugs in
the country. No other drug has ever spread so fast.

To halt its spread, the U.S. Government has spent millions of dollars
making a dramatic case against Ecstasy as a dangerous drug. The headline
of this campaign has been that Ecstasy causes massive brain damage. But
this is a claim based on flawed science, and many Ecstasy users now feel
their government has no credibility.

What do we know about the real risks of Ecstasy? Has the government been
its own worst enemy in the fight to stop the drug's use?

"Peter Jennings Reporting: Ecstasy Rising" takes viewers through the
seminal events in this story and introduces all the major players --
from Alexander Shulgin, the famous chemist who was the first person to
report the effects of Ecstasy, to Michael Clegg, the Dallas businessman
who gave Ecstasy its name and turned it into a recreational drug, to the
drug enforcement officer who led the fight to make Ecstasy illegal, to
the DJ who brought Rave to America. This special tells the definitive
story of how an obscure compound, discovered in 1912 and all but
forgotten for over 60 years, became the drug of choice for a generation.

This is taking place on April 1st, any chance that a positive story about
E is going to turn out to be a joke?

I'd love to see a tv show blast the governemnt for it's lies and bogus
studies. Let people know it doesn't eat holes in the brain. I'm amazed
people think the drug actually eats holes in the brain just because of
a government propaganda initiative.

KeNNy!

Doubt it. Networks are pretty conservative and don't usually play jokes on
their viewers unless some very extensive studies prove that viewers like
having jokes played on them which directly translates into dollars being
spent and going into network pockets.

I'm pretty middle of the road concerning drug use but doesn't it just seem
logical that drug use might contribute to some deterioration of the body.
To what extent is the point on contention. Drug use seems like running a
car on nitrous. Immediate performance gains but it reduces the life
expectancy.

Do remember getting an email from this person some time ago. Told her she
was welcomed to post a call for interviewees on the nyc-raves list but
that most would probably be suspicious of her. Don't know how far she got
and I'm afraid what kind of conclusions are made based on the people that
_would_ reply and agree to such an interview. Those I'd most like to see
represent rave culture stand to lose the most for being publically
associated with it unfortunantly.

Actually I was wondering if the email itself was a hoax. I didn't bother
checking tv listings for the show to confirm it's actual airing. But
realizing you are probably with hyperreal and reading your last post I
doubt anyone would go through that kind of effort just for a hoax email.

This should be a good program!

You know....something that I've noticed regarding drug use is that *usually* the people who wind up doing drugs look alot younger at an older age. I have friends that have been getting banged out for years and they look like they are still in their teens and early twenties, when in actuality they are late twenties to mid thirties. I did not do any research on it, so I can only speculate that the reasoning behind this difference would be the (sometimes rampant) use of drugs.

It's not just the clothes that they wear either - I know a 32 year old, even when dressed up, asks him for ID for cigarettes. You have to be 18 to buy cigs...and look like youre at least 25?? Look around at parties - I know people in their 30's still chillen and dancing but, you would never know how old they actually were by just looking at them.

I don't know the complete validity of my observance (as it is just an observance and had no research completed on it)...but, it's definately an interesting thought.

i definately have to dissagree with this observation...

most speedfreaks and heroin addicts end up looking twice as old after a
few years of steady use. however most e users havent excessively abused
their immune system.

most cokeheads destroy their nasal membranes, and their heart over
time. so they are more prone to heart attacks at a young age... so they
may not look old on the outside ... but the inside says a different
story.

i definately think it depends on what drugs.

MDMA may not (though amphetamines as a class do cause
certain phenotypic changes), but Ketamine (special K),
and PCP (dust) most certainly do make "holes in your
brain"

They are called Olney's Lesions, are macroscopic (i.e.
visible with the naked eye). These lacunae are quite
startling to see. Ive only seen pictures in pathology
and pharmacology. (the only thing more striking in my
"drugs of abuse" lectures was just how benign LSD is).

I agree that alot of street knowledge is
misinformation, but alot of times, it surprisingly is
factual information grossly twisted.
