currently, i'd say g.r. is still kind of a wasteland, but like
many places in the midwest, the boredom makes people create their own
entertainment and a small rave scene is beginning to sprout up.
there is a place called "10 weston" which is an art gallery by day, but they have
recently been throwing parties. kikoman- who is big in the detroit area-
was spinning at the last one i went to at this place.
another underground location is "240 front st." which has been a band practice
spot for years. now they have been having techno, house and industrial
nights.
i personally have a public access tv show called "nothing t.v."
on saturdays at 1am. the show is a collage of experimental video
psychedelia with a constant soundtrack of techno, house and industrial.
viewers can phone in and add themselves to the mix while i echo and
warp their voices.
aside from denny's, g.r. has a few cool 24 hour
places. "the clock"- sort of like denny's, but with jukeboxes at the
tables and there's "marges donut den", the coolest donut shop in town.
so there's what i can tell you right now. it sounds like there are lots
of things planned for this summer. there is talk of somebody starting a
record label for electronic music and i've heard of several parties
being planned. i can provide info as i get it....
