- There is a new function on Tuesday nights (9p-2a) at the Bird of Paradise lounge called 'Mood Indigo' local hip-hop/acid jazz/soul dj Bubbalicious and guests ($5).
- A local techno show on WCBN 88.3 FM hosted by dj BMG with special guests from the metro area this is every Thursday night from 10:00p - 1:00a.
- A cafe in town called Not Another Cafe has music nights but I'm not sure what night.
There's not much going on here unless you live here and go to house parties. There are several local techno djs spinning acid, house, jungle, breakbeats, and mixtures of all. Plus several local artists creating music and playing live at house parties. There are a couple of clothing stores in town to check out for Workshop, anarchic adjustment, Ton, Liquid Sky, Tasty, Drawls/Dawls, Kingpin, etc,etc. One is called the spot on 4th Ave and the other is Mojo clothing on the corner of state st. and williams st. Flyers for upcoming parties are available at both stores and a good store for music (some vinyl and cds) is Schoolkids (annex) and The Groove Yardhas vinyl also. Pretty limited selections and pricey - better to go to Record Time in Roseville (see the detroit section).
There is currently a resurgence in parties around the area. After going through about an eight month drought because on police presence, a few people are getting their act together and Detroit is experiencing parties again (I'm talking about large parties with flyers - I refuse to use the 'R' word). It is interesting to say the least. The exciting vibe that was present in '94 and before is definitely not there for the old school kids but maybe the younger ones are experiencing/creating their own. I can't really get into it anymore, which is a shame, but if interested in checking out a Detroit party, there will probably be one of some sort on any given weekend. There is also a Tresor club opening up in Detroit in March. This should be good for hearing imported acts/djs and chillin'. Come check it out.
