Going downstairs and checking out the setups was kinda surprising! I knew it was supposed to be a small party but wow! they weren't kidding when they said small! So I thought to myself shit I'm not gonna last long here because I was already tired. Ya whatever! I liked the party so much I ended staying as long as I could (which was 5:30 or so) Sure it was a small party but you know what it was real fun! I think the hghlight for me was once again seeing my danzin buddy Lettuce (dave) who trekked all the way from NY to this party. It was good getting wrekked on the floor with him and just showing ourselves how St00pid we can get on the danzfloor together :) I dunno what it is but I always seem to enjoy a party the most around 4:00am...what is so magik about that time?? Is it cause I am running on pure adrenaline at that point, the musik being played is really nice Gr00vy House and there are only the few odd surviors there? Well anyway props go out to the party throwers :) My favorite sets were Space's and Jimmy Hat's set in the early early morning :) Sprockett had a nice idea mixing a Prince song with some other song that sounded really funky until the\ goddAMN REKKID SKIPPED (dOh!!) That was pretty kewl sprock regardless of the damn skip! Well I had my fun and I hope one day there will be a pure net event thrown somewehere in the boston area Anyway only major complaints I have was the frigin Heat!!! Can U say Sauna?? other than that I guess it is just time I get used to seing crack kidz on crystal from now on :( anyway..sorry long post! regards to all that were there, u know who u are :) Zoinks!!! P.S.: You know what Lettuce??? I think yer gettin Old!!! ;) Get into shape boy!!!! ;) what aren't u man enuff to do the Death Danz anymore ?? ;) Space: Nice meeting u! nice set :) Dag: thanks for the apple juice :) Ben : Nice kick the table dancing mix ;) I'm sure u pissed Liquid Todd off ;) Drew: Go back to sleep u wackass ;) peace. Friday's Gr00ve Tunnel was one of the best parties ever! Mad Props to all the promoters, Jimmy Hat and his guest list, Sprokett and his "artist formerly known as..." mixin, friendly netters and the lounge upstairs. Hmm.(Says amiga Liz) Who was that shirtless guy with handcuffs? Yes, once againg the sophmores are distraugt having missed their idol Liquid Todd. Oh well. None the less the party was amazing. We came a while after the tunnel was shut down so all we were left with was Gr00ve. We met netters instantly, Cris (craffi@...), Alex (from ne-raves who never gets his mail???),the guy who started the list (John I think) and a few others. I'm sorry I'm so bad with names.:( When we weren't dancing, we, mini-trunk of starburst and jollyRs in hand, wandered around this amazingly small, yet amazing venue. This MIT dorm had so many siderooms that in the packed dancing rooms I didn't trip over any chillers, only other dancers. I love that! And when I wanted to rest I had the choice between the comfy sofas upstairs or the fresh vibe downstairs. Props to Everyone spinning! I'm no expert on music, but I know what I like, what keeps me out on the dance floor, and I heard some really creative excellent music on friday! And while I'm shamelessly complimenting everybody...I thought that guy with the red shirt and the mime gloves is an amazing dancer. My friends and I were sitting by the fan watching him and his friend (who is also an amazing dancer) kick it sometime around S's prince mixin. I met so many really friendly people! What made my night was the comment, "hey, your the girl who passed out the plur lollipops in the Pluralism line." Ahh, the joys of being famous. On the same note, thanks for the ne-rave sticker. Did you draw that Cris? After the party my friends, Alex (who kindly lent me his fuzzy for over an hour), and his BU friend all walked to Kenmore Sq. to go to IHOP. WARNING: IHOP NOW CLOSES BETWEEN 4am &6am! Of course we showed up at five and had to wait an hour in the cold because the T shuts down. (Actually someone was having a party in a BU dorm so we chilled in the hallway of that building.) A very pleasent evening! -Pom -- \*/ POMEGRANATE \*/ | someone@somewhere | / \ Boston, MA / \ ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''PLUR! It's just the ghetto boy's version of the queenie vogue challenges of nyc. Not only does the atmosphere of competition that it creates suck, but the circles that form in the process take up far too much space then what is reasonable for one dancer. In fact, these circles, in conjunction with the posse of armed twelve-year-olds that shows up every weekend, have to be the singlemost contributors to incredible decline of the Loft. Until the wannabe-hardcore-in-a-gang-lameshit-attitude-drugdealers started showing up the Loft used to be an incredible scene. """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" Woh. I'm sorry but that post really rubbed me the wrong way. I usually try to hold my bad vibes to myself, or at least confine them to private email, to keep down the negative bandwith on the list but: 1) When someone is a really good dancer, I mean someone who really enjoys dancing and is moved by the music and all that, they are really fun to watch. I know I can't dance for shit, and I usually just flip out on hyperenergy, so I really appreciate the skill of people who can. I know at groove tunnel, on friday, my friends and I went outside to take a dance brake and while we were sitting by the fan, Zoinks and Lettuce (who I just found our were netters) were kiking it in the hall. Now these guys were really good dancers, and they were being really respectful about not taking up dancefloor space. My friends and I just laid back, and absorbed sprokett's set, and watched them dance. It really annoys me when people make generalizations about people in the scene based on how they dance, what they wear and how old they are (see #2) AGGGGGGGGH! (Pom's sound of anger and fustrantion after she remembers a very long, yet constuctive string on baretts and short skirts that eventually spawned it's own list. Although she *really enjoyed* that string, she is annoyed that she must argue again against prejucice, when it seems very obvious that it is wrong.) As proved above, these two dancers (dancing whatever style they were dancing) I'm not very good at neuance, were taking up a lot of room but not on the dance floor. They were RESPECTFUL enough to dance in the hall. Therefor the argument "Not only does the atmosphere of competition that it creates suck, but the circles that form in the process take up far too much space then what is reasonable for one dancer." is inconclusive (ahh, I luv that OJ trial talk) because the competition between these two friends (who I totally don't know and feel a little bad about using them as an example in a semi-flame) friendly, if it was competition, but there were no circles formed and it was enjoyable to watch! And in conclusion: If these guys were respectful, then all the dancers cannot be disrespectful, because I'm sure these guys are not alone. 2) Yes. There is more. The age thing. Actually I won't go into the age thing since there is a seperate string on that on which I voiced my oppinion. But It's safe to say I disagree with you. Pomegranate sighs after completeing her first flame. Pretty long winded. She is sorry about spreading bad vibe and will try never to do it again. Oh. It looks like the sophmores have two new idols Zoinks and Lettuce, but they still love Todd!:) Hehe. -Pom -- \*/ POMEGRANATE \*/ | someone@somewhere | / \ Boston, MA / \ ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''PLUR! But a good yow. Groove Tunnel: What can I say, big up to Phat Buddha and Gearheadz for pulling off what I thought would be impossible @MIT... a party past 1AM. Fer sure I thought the CP's would come traipsing along and shut it down. They did come traipsing along, and threatened, but due to quick work by Mark and Russel, 1 door was shut, volume reduced a tad and on it went...hi MikeD and Jimmy and the rest of the B-town kru who I sorta recognize but can't place names on because I'm just a fair weather raver with a seive for brain :). What else can I say but hot hot hot hot hot hot hot (literally and figuratively). But it was a laundry room, whaddya expect? Subterranean: Very appropriate name. It was dark dark dark. One of those industrial park rental places I guess. Couldn't beat the admission ($2-3 or whatever you felt like). Two essentially free events in one weekend. Couldn't believe it. Forgot who was on when I came in (12:30) pretty good. Trixie really rocked the house, lots of slow breaks, at least 2-3 tunes I knew, about 2 more than I know for most sets :). Did Bit play this event? the part of his set that I managed to catch I liked, but I had left to go to 7-11 to pick up some fluid with my friend, and by the time we got back he was already into his mix. Fresh Blend played cool stuff, but kinda an odd style, a lot of near dead stops, and long beatless interludes. People kinda stood around a looking a little lost when that happened. Then came Tera. If that's what they mean by brooklyn hardcore, then I'm not scared ;). I was expecting relentless 200 bpm pounding, but no, it was actually kinda pretty in spots. We left in the middle of Tera, because my friend was tired (first time raver), and I was too.. hadn't totally recovered from G.T. Random musings: Hi points: Some guy (coulda sworn I saw im at G.T., stupid me way to shy for my own good, didn't strike up a conversation.) asked whether I was enjoying myself... I answered "Definitely" with a smile. While standing eyes closed, bobbing to the beat, I open them up, and lo and behold, a tall blonde being with a little card and a big smile for the next N.H.Underground event. While dancing (uh, ok flailing) around I hear/feel a thump off beat. I turn around and see a blonde woman sitting on the ground. Stupid me thought it was part of a breakdance thing. except she wasn't budging. But within 2-3 beats two people had helped her up, just like that. Brought back memories of mosh pits of my past, this sense of community/togetherness in the love of music. Other notes: The more someone smokes, the less they dance. Ventilation @ raves is oodles worse than your average nightclub, so that kinda sucks. I must be deaf. I didn't feel a need for earplugs, although maybe the bodies between me and the speakers (~25 feet) helped. If you forget cotton balls or earplugs, tissue or paper towels work in a jiffy, and if you wet it, they block out an awful lot. There's something to be said for pop/vocals/oldies. Baby D "Let me be your Fantasy" came on, I just couldn't help by try to sing along. It was loud, so I didn't have to worry about embarassing myself. A whole night of old chestnuts would be ho hum, but sometimes, it's great to have an anchor, a reference point to grab onto. That blonde woman who fell on her duff danced really really well. My friend (1st timer) thought she was great. More NRG than 80% of the guys. More NRG than 99% of the gals. My friend said wassup with that, too many of the gals just doing this gimpy sashaying, I wanna dance like HER. So she tried. Not quite there yet, but afterwards, she said it felt liberating. Are the best dancers always pushing the edge of their abilities? Maybe now I have someone new to drag around to events :) Breakdancing is cool to watch, for about 5 minutes, because it's like the same 2-3 people who go into the circle, and after a while, they repeat their own moves. Boy, thought I'd never shut up, huh? don ps happy easter/passover/springday Date: Sat, 15 Apr 1995 21:15:59 -0400 (EDT) From: GOAT Subject: Groove Tunnel To: boston-raves@ccs.neu.edu Hey!
